Originally when I started streaming AM 1710 on the internet, I had every intention of paying all of the streaming costs. That seemed realistic back in 2003 and 2004 when I started with just a dozen to 30 slots and even seemed possible when it grew to 400+. But the popular success of AM 1710 continued beyond my expectations for a streaming station. In mid-2005 I began allowing donations towards the cost of streaming since this service does not generate any revenue for MacinMind Software that I can detect. By listeners taking care of the cost of streaming it has certainly kept this station alive for the longterm instead of it being an expensive hobby I would have had to give up. I would like to say that AM 1710 is commercial-free but in fact there are those antique commercials in the shows. I'm not making anything on those :-) Streaming expenses were $2975.00 for 2006, $3,757.50 for 2007, and 3,780.00 for 2008 and 2009. All 4 years were paid 100% or more by your donations. Truly remarkable! Thank you! For 2010 the estimated expense with the whole year at 700 moving to 800 connections mid February will be 2,870.00. This is a $910 reduction from last year! The monthly expense for streaming for the last 10 months is $224.00/month. I update the total contributed for the year on the left column myself as I receive each donation. I'm suggesting anything extra go to replacing the aging 2003 Mac G4 (which does all the storage, backup, scheduling and playout) with a new double-HDD Mac Mini. That would cost nearly the difference in streaming cost reductions this year, just about $1,000. Please consider a donation to help keep the free-will support model a success.
